Richard Donner’s Classic Car Collection Heads To Auction This Month

Throughout his life, the late American filmmaker Richard Donner carefully curated his personal collection of classic cars. Now, the collection is headed to auction.

The Richard Donner Collection comprises 10 vintage vehicles in total and is set to go under the gavel at Gooding & Company’s Geared Online Scottsdale Edition sale at the end of this month.

Donner, who passed away last year at the age of 91, had a prolific five-decade-long career. Some of the filmmaker’s most notable works include The Twilight Zone, Gilligan’s Island, The Goonies, Free Willy, and The X-Men franchise.

Amongst Donner’s classic car collection is an impressive 1965 Porsche 356 SC Cabriolet, expected to fetch between $140,000 – $180,000, which the filmmaker acquired in 1971. While the car has never been fully restored, the exterior has been resprayed and the leather seats reupholstered.

Another standout vehicle in Donner’s collection is a 1962 Volkswagen Microbus which sports a two-tone red and white livery. The 1960s’ relic is expected to fetch between $70,000 – $90,000.

The online-only auction is set to run from Monday, January 24 to Friday, January 28.
