TAG Heuer Launches New 80s Era Dive Watch

In a nod to the 80s, Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has released the Aquaracer Professional 300 Night Diver, an updated version of the dive watch worn by Timothy Dalton in the 1987 Bond film The Living Daylights

The 15th Bond film has no official timepiece, but years of close analysis by enthusiasts has led to the consensus that the 007 agent wears a black TAG Heuer 980.031 dive watch with a white lume dial throughout the film. TAG Heuer’s latest release is a thoroughly modern reworking of this classic timepiece.

The Aquaracer Professional 300 Night Diver features a 43mm stainless steel case coated in black DLC, topped with a black ceramic turning bezel. Beneath the watch’s resilient sapphire face, there’s an opaline dial with the trademark stripes of the Aquaracer, which have been treated with Super-LumiNova for a phosphorescent effect that further emphasises the spy-like feel of the piece.

The greatest change between the original watch and the modern reworking is the bracelet. While Dalton’s watch featured a metal bracelet, the new version has a rubber strap with a black DLC stainless steel clasp.

However, it is not just the aesthetic of the watch that has been refined. The new version features the TAG Heuer’s in-house Caliber 5 automatic movement, while the original was a quart timepiece. The movement includes 300 meters of water resistance and a 38-hour power reserve.
