CEO Top 50

Name: Warren Buffett

Net worth: Approx. $83 billion

Company: Berkshire Hathaway

Bio: It’s not hard to believe that philanthropist and business magnate, Warren Buffett, is considered one of the most successful investors in the world – in his youth, he attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the pursuit of business and investing and invested in a 40-acre Omaha farm as a freshman. When Berkshire Hathaway began selling class A shares on May 29, 1990 with the market closing at $7,175 per share, Buffett became a billionaire.

In 2008, he was ranked by Forbes as the richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of approximately $62 billion, only dropping by a place to second a year later after donating billions of dollars to charity. Buffett is dedicated to philanthropy, having donated almost $32 billion so far and signing a promise with Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg they called the “Gates-Buffett Giving Pledge”; a promise to donate at least half of their wealth to charity, and invite others with great wealth to do the same.

“Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”

CEO Fact: The majority of Buffet’s wealth was made after he turned 50—before then, he was worth $300m, a speck compared to his current worth of around $93 billion. He also bought the controlling share of Berkshire Hathaway in 1964 just so that he could fire its CEO, after a deal ended with an official offer for the company to buy back shares at 12.5 cents per share lower than agreed upon.
