Bio: Bloomberg is the Founder and CEO of Bloomberg L.P., a financial software, data, and mass media company. Bloomberg Terminal provides software tools to financial companies such as an analytics and equity trading platform and has over 325,000 terminal subscribers globally as of October 2015.
In 2001, he ran for the position of Mayor of New York against Democrat Mark Green, which required him to gave up his position of CEO and appoint Lex Fenwick as his replacement. In 2014, he announced that he would return to Bloomberg L.P. as CEO, a position he holds to this day.
Among his philanthropic endeavours are his passion for environmentalism in the battle against climate change; he is the Founder of Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy group, and is in support of strict regulations on fracking for which he awarded a $6 million grant through Bloomberg Philanthropies to the Environmental Defence Fund.
Between 2007 and 2009, Bloomberg had moved from 142nd to 17th in the Forbes list of the world’s billionaires in only two years. Bloomberg was also ranked sixth on Richtopia’s list of 200 Most Influential Philanthropists and Social Entrepreneurs in March 2017.
