CEO Today Top 50

Name: Larry Page

Net worth: Approx. $50 billion

Company: Alphabet Inc.

Bio: It’s hard to remember a time before Google. It almost feels as if it always naturally existed, synonymous with the internet itself. It was the collaboration of Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Brin that brought it to global computers in 1998, quickly becoming the most visited website in the world with the mission statement: “To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

Google became Alphabet Inc. in 2015, after reorganising its assets into a conglomerate, with Google remaining its head subsidiary. Sundar Pichai became CEO of Google upon its completion, replacing Larry Page, who became CEO of Alphabet.

Page was named number one in ForbesAmerica’s Most Popular Chief Executives as voted by Google’s employees, and Fortune magazine named Page its Businessperson of the Year in 2014, declaring him “the world’s most daring CEO”.

“If you’re changing the world, you’re working on important things. You’re excited to get up in the morning.”

CEO Fact: Google is named after the googolplex, shortened to googol, a mathematical term that denotes a 1 followed by 100 zeros—a term that a fellow student misspelled when coming up with the name, which they kept and brought us the Google we know today.
