Bio:  In 1996, Karl-Johan Persson attended the European Business School in London, majoring in Business and Economics and graduating in 2002.

H&M, short for Hennes & Mauritz, was founded by Persson’s grandfather, Erling Persson in 1947.



He joined H&M in 2005, starting out in an operational role and working his way up to head of expansion and head of business development in 2007, before being appointed CEO in 2009 to succeed Rolf Eriksen.

H&M had 2,629 stores operating worldwide at the end of August 2012, with its 3,000th store opening in 2013 in Chengdu, China.

CEO Fact: As a child Persson wanted to be a professional Tennis player.  He gave up on this dream when he lost 6-0 6-0 6-0 to future Australian Open winner and Swedish professional, Thomas Johansson.  He has  also actually modelled some of H&M’s clothing on the catwalk himself.
