C. C. Wei: Chairman and CEO of TSMC
Che-Chia “C. C.” Wei is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). According to TSMC’s official executive page, Wei was elected by the Board in June 2024 to concurrently hold the roles of Chairman and CEO. Prior to that, he had already served as TSMC’s CEO (since June 2018) and was a member of the board.
Wei joined TSMC in 1998 after prior roles in technology and operations at companies like STMicroelectronics, Charter Semiconductor, and Texas Instruments, as detailed on TSMC’s executive biography. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from National Chiao Tung University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Yale University. His leadership has been pivotal in driving TSMC’s dominance in advanced chip manufacturing and the global AI market — a topic explored further in Is TSMC Winning the Global AI Chip Race?.
Executive Compensation & Disclosures
TSMC’s 2024 Annual Report shows that Wei’s election as Chairman and CEO was formalized effective June 4, 2024, and also shows compensation and benefits tables for executive officers. TSMC report that executive compensation includes salary, bonuses, and other benefits, but it does not break out a publicly confirmed full “salary + bonus + equity + stock awards” figure specifically for Wei that is widely cited in media outside the company.
In the same report, TSMC notes that they have established Employee Restricted Stock Awards programs to link executive and senior management compensation with performance and ESG outcomes.
Leadership Changes in U.S. Operations
While Wei leads the global company, there have been confirmed leadership changes at TSMC’s U.S. subsidiary. According to an SEC filing, Ray Chuang was elected as CEO of TSMC Arizona Corporation, effective October 1, 2025, succeeding Y.L. Wang in that role. SEC ABC15 Phoenix also reported that Chang succeeds Wang as CEO of the Arizona operations. ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix (KNXV)
That said, these changes apply to the regional U.S. arm of TSMC and do not alter C. C. Wei’s global leadership position.
