Clark Hunt is chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (which he owns with his three siblings) and also a founding investor-operator in Major League Soccer. Clark Hunt is a prominent billionaire and businessman, recognized for his considerable contributions across multiple sectors.

Early Life

Clark Hunt was born on February 19, 1965 to Norma and Lamar Hunt. Lamar Hunt founded the Chiefs in 1960 as the Dallas Texans and moved them to Kansas City two years before Clark was born. Clark graduated first in his class at Southern Methodist University in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in finance. Hunt worked for two years as an investment banker with Goldman Sachs, but then returned back home to work with his father.

Clark Hunt was a captain and four-year letterman on the Mustangs’ nationally ranked soccer team and has received numerous awards and recognitions from his alma mater, including the SMU Cox School of Business Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2004 and the SMU Cox School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018. In 2020 he received the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award – the highest honor the university can bestow upon its graduates – for outstanding leadership in philanthropy, business and civic life. Hunt currently serves on the Board of Trustees for SMU and for the St. Mark’s School of Texas.

Mr Hunt was named as chairman of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2005 and CEO in 2010 and president of FC Dallas of Major League Soccer. Since Hunt became CEO, the club has earned nine AFC West Division championships, including eight consecutive division titles (2016-present).  Hunt has hoisted the award that bears his father’s name – the Lamar Hunt Trophy – four times in the past five years as the club claimed AFC championships and earned Super Bowl appearances following the 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023 seasons. With their victory in Super Bowl LVIII after 2023 season,  the Chiefs made history as only the second team this century to win back-to-back world championships and became one of just seven NFL teams to hold at least four Super Bowl titles (IV, LIV, LVII, LVIII).

In January 2013, Hunt made changes to the organization’s leadership structure and hired Head Coach Andy Reid.In 11 seasons under Reid, the Chiefs have won 128 regular season games, the most in the NFL during that span. The club has qualified for the postseason 10 times (2013, 2015-23), winning eight consecutive AFC West titles (2016-23), competing in six consecutive AFC Championship Games (2018-23), and winning three Super Bowls (2019, 2022-23). From 2011-18, Hunt served as chairman of the NFL International Committee and expanded the league’s international efforts and investment overseas. A total of 44 regular season games have been held by the league in the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Germany, with every NFL team having the opportunity to  play at least once internationally. As a continuing member of the committee, the NFL is set to hold five international regular season games, including one in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the first NFL game to be played in South America.

Family

Clark Hunt got married to Tavia Shackles in 1993, a former Miss Missouri Teen USA and Miss Kansas USA. Tavia and Clark have three children – Gracie (25), Ava (19) and Knobel (22). Tavia is director of the Chiefs Women’s Organization and is involved in the annual Chiefs Style Lounge, which she called one of her favorite events of the year. Clark and Tavia are actively involved in numerous philanthropic initiatives in both Kansas City and Dallas. In 2023, the Chiefs recorded the largest charitable footprint in the history of the organization, with $3.7 million delivered to Chiefs Kingdom and beyond. One of the Hunt family’s lasting legacies is the Chiefs Charity Game, which has raised more than $15.6 million for local youth-focused charities since its inception in 1985.
