1956 Albatross Motorboat Owned By Prince Philip To Go On Auction

The late Prince Philip’s iconic 1956 Albatross motorboat is officially being put up for auction in the UK next month.

Auction house Bonhams will offer the Duke’s 1956 Albatross MkII Super Sports Runabout at the Goodwood Members Meeting Sale, which is set to take place on April 10 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.

According to Bonhams, the motorboat is unrestored but in “good condition”, still with its original Ford 100E engine. The boat is one of only 607 that were produced and is expected to collect at least £20,000.

The late Prince Philip enjoyed this motorboat for over three decades and was photographed enjoying an excursion in the watercraft with his son Prince Charles, who was eight years old at the time (as seen in Bonhams’ listing).

“This really is a unique and fascinating piece of royal history. We are privileged to be presenting it at our Goodwood sale and I am sure that it will receive much attention,” said Tim Schofield, Head of Department, Bonhams Motor Cars UK.

The upcoming sale is set to be live-streamed with pre-sale viewings available for guests at Goodwood on April 9.
